What is change?
By definition…
Change is an act or a process through which something becomes different;
It’s the substitution of one thing for another or something new;
It’s also defined as a refreshingly different experience.
These are all dictionary definitions for change.
Other terms we use for change in the context of personal, professional, or spiritual development are words like transformation, growth, development.
You could even exchange the word change for goals or achievements.
It’s the process of seeing the need for something in your business or your life that needs to be altered or modified.
The intention being to bring about a new, more beneficial outcome or result for you, your people, your business, your clients, whatever it is that you’re serving.
In the context of following one’s purpose, change is an incredibly important topic of discussion.
If we’re going to talk about purpose, we have to talk about change.
Finding a new or more refined direction in life and getting aligned with something more purposeful to you requires letting go. You have to release certain patterns you have of being, doing and having so you can adopt new ones.
The process of which is generally pretty tricky for a lot of people.
For this reason embracing change can be really uncomfortable, and it can be exceptionally challenging to manage at times. Anyone managing change in a corporate environment will tell you that there’s a real skill to it.
In order to truly follow your purpose and master meaning and fulfilment in your life, you must become a master of change. You must become a master of transformation.
In doing so, you develop the ability to respond to your needs. The needs of your business, your clients, your team members, the markets you operate in, and the variety of the systems with which you engage.
These must all come into alignment with your authentic expression in the world.
In truth, mastering change is simply stepping into response-ability. Your true ability to respond to business and life.
Change, as I said, can be hard.
We can become attached to the old ways even when they don’t serve us anymore, because at least they’re familiar.
At least we know what we’re doing in the old mode of operating.
Stepping into change comes with uncertainty, and with uncertainty comes anxiety, and with anxiety comes irrationality in decision. Stuckness.
We need a way to plan, track, make, and manage change if we’re going to do it effectively.
The good news is, like anything practical, there’s always a formula that you can learn and replicate. Once you have it, it becomes easier to replicate and build as a reliable competency.
That’s where we want to get you to.
We want to make sure that you’re able to recognise the need for change before it happens or at least quickly.
Then you want to make it one of your key skillsets to make change and manage it.
The great philosopher Heraclitus said the only thing that is constant is change, and he’s correct.
Impermanence, as the Buddhists call it, is the only thing that you can rely on.
I guess that makes having a system for embracing change really, really important.
