I’m getting pretty excited.
Next week I head off on a solo-man mission.
Driving to the Gold Coast.
Yep, just me and my black Falcon station wagon, out on the open road for 3 days.
Can’t wait.
But that’s not the most exciting part.
The most exciting part is that my family and I are escaping the Melbourne frosty months for nearly 7 weeks.
They’re flying – I’m driving.
Gold Coast and Byron Bay here we come!
Warm weather, surf, sunsets, friends and family adventures.
And of course doing business.
Over the past few years I’ve worked solidly at sculpting my business according to MY values, MY ideals, MY strengths.
My PURPOSE.
What fulfills me – NOT others.
I had to make some bold decisions…
…take some chances, and potentially make sacrifices…
…which at the time seemed LARGE.
I was working for someone else PAYG $35 per hour.
I left, they hired me back as a contractor and my rate increased by nearly 1000%.
I then focused more on my own coaching business and it grew.
Then after a while, I didn’t want to facilitate certain aspects of my coaching anymore.
So I built video coaching sessions and member’s portal.
Clients loved it, the value of my services doubled, the client results doubled and my work was halved.
My clients wanted one-on-one face-to-face, I wanted online – I called it and took the step and everyone is happy.
My consulting clients wanted a facilitator in the room, I wanted to lead via conference call interstate – put my case forward and it they went for it.
I scaled my business to mainly group work, live events where people come to me, and the rest online – I prefer that and it’s being received.
Slowly but surely I’m making my business and life work for ME on MY terms.
Part of achieving this is to overcome internal hurdles around FEAR.
The ‘old security versus freedom dilemma‘ came up.
That’s easy – freedom any day (as scary as it can be).
When I’m free to create how I wish – security just follows.
You see as I realized it was just a fear of living life on my terms, for me and my family, it seemed like a no brainer taking these steps.
And it got easier the more I took, and still is.
And to be quite honest if it hadn’t worked out I would have left coaching.
Because my highest value is “adventure holidays with my family”.
My highest ideal is “connection”.
And when you bring these two together to me it’s bliss.
Now throw in there my greatest core strength, “recognition through influencing publicly” ie. presenting, facilitating and coaching, and what you have is…
The need to tour my coaching work and operate remotely in order to create more time to connect with my family on an adventure.
I’m running an event and my business on the Gold Coast and holidaying at the same time.
AND I’m doing it.
That’s why I’m a little excited.
I don’t want my business running my life.
I want my life running my business.
For years I felt intense frustration around the balance in my life.
I held the rest of the world responsible for my holding-pattern because I was afraid of taking big steps.
But really it was me subordinating, telling myself it’s okay to settle for less.
Buying into the idea that in order to have what I want I can’t have what I want.
Huh?
It was letting others dictate my business and life all because I was scared.
And it could all still fall flat on it’s face…
But that’s a chance I’m willing to take because I wish not to be cornered by fear and societal conditioning.
Why am I sharing this?
To me you pick you vector, you stay on it and others come or not.
I have a lot of people come to me who aren’t fulfilled and don’t feel aligned with their purpose.
Life lacks meaning.
They feel cornered.
They’re unhappy in their job, their business and how they live their life.
Their commitments now dictate their life rather than their commitments being an extension of how they wish to live.
And…
…they think that taking the necessary steps to have happiness is big and scary.
I’m here to tell you it’s a veil.
An ILLUSION.
The biggest steps I’ve taken seem so small these days.
You just need to know yourself and follow that knowing.
And if you’re not following that knowing you need to…
1. Get to know yourself better…
Get crystal clear on what you love to do, how you love to be and what you have to give the world, that lights you up…
And…
2. Ask yourself what you need to retain, discard and invent in your life to follow that knowing with all your heart and courage.
It’s actually never as hard as you think it is.
And definitely not as hard as it is to live a life of unfulfilled dreams.
I can already feel that open road, that warm sea air.
Bring it on.
Life is short.
You gotta work it your way.
