Are you putting off to the future what you can achieve now?
I want to share with you some quick, easy and effective tips for getting prepped NOW to ensure 2019 is your best year yet in business and life.
A big problem that a lot of clients come to me with is procrastination – finding reasons to put off what’s important.
Essentially putting off to the future what you can achieve now.
At this time of year it’s rife.
People start to passively shut down at the beginning of December and put off planning, decision making and new directions until mid January or even later.
The reality is that people who succeed have immediacy, they don’t put off to tomorrow what they can achieve now.
I hear so many stories about people in business who find it hard to get moving in the New Year.
If you start thinking about strategies, ideas, new projects and goals for 2019 in say January or February, by the time you’re up and running a quarter of the year is gone.
That’s only 9 months to thrive rather than 12.
It’s deeply frustrating and sees you getting slow results right when you want to be striving forward.
So in short, you can lose a great portion of the year ramping up for the year ahead (or what’s left of it).
To be prepared doesn’t take a massive amount of energy. focus or time.
You just need a framework, a simple framework for getting a running start now.
Then you can have a holiday knowing that the course is set for the New Year and when it’s back to business as usual you’re ready and can start on the front foot.
So let me share with you 4 steps to win before you begin in 2019 so you have the best chance of making next year your best yet.
So I use a simple framework that goes like this…
Aim, Retain, Discard, Invent, Get Set!
Step 1: Aim
So have a quick think about what you want to achieve in business and life next year.
In business think about turnover, cash in, profit, targets and business opportunities you want to have achieved and capitalised on by the end of the year.
So think money, sales, career progress, direction, and major steps you’d like to take.
In regards to the rest of your life, think work/life balance, time spent working and holidaying, relationships you want to improve, education you’d like explore; think home, family, spirituality, friends and social etc,
Write it down.
Step 2: Retain
Now ask yourself what went well, what did you achieve?
What partnerships, ideas, strategies, new directions, ways of operating and plans were rewarding?
What were your wins that you’d like to replicate?
What did you learn that you can use to your advantage in making next year an absolutely rocking year?
Write them down.
Step 3: Discard
What didn’t go well, what didn’t you achieve and what would you would like to let go of?
What patterns, habits, partnerships, ideas and strategies we not rewarding or saw you operating your business and life in ways that were out of alignment with what is most important and integral to you.
This is what you want to leave behind as go into the New Year.
Write them down.
Step 4: Invent
Given what you know about what went well and what didn’t, what needs to change and what do you need to do differently?
What new avenues of business do you need to open up?
What people, organisations, systems and strategies do you need to align with moving forward that’ll bring you your results and help you hit the mark with your new aim?
Also be thinking what help and support you need, what resources you need to tap that you haven’t?
These kind of things.
Write them down.
Step 5: Get Set!
So now you have that in place think what you wish to achieve in the first 90 days.
You don’t need to plan it if you don’t wish, just write it down so you know what you want in the first quarter.
Write it down.
Once you’ve done this you’re set.
The wheels of success are NOW already in motion.
Now you can relax and have a break knowing what’s on the other side.
While you’re on break let your mind wander away from business…
If you can properly let go you’ll start to observe the inspirations, motivations and purposeful desires that emerge in your thoughts as potential ideas to implement as the year progresses.
Let your unconscious mind fill the gaps with what you want and when you’re back on board integrate this into your plan.
So the framework again is.
Aim, Retain, Discard, Invent, Get Set!
Your first commitment in January
This will be to set a solid plan for your success.
Project map the first 90 days only to keep it simple.
You’ll be off and running before the year has barely begun.
